This is a unique, outstanding and beautifully written novel. Its satirical quality is comparable to fiction by Swift and Dickens, but in style as modern as its subject matter, which sensitively and accurately reflects successive impacts of “immigration” upon real people, while incidentally exposing the career-politician hypocrisy and clerical sanctimony among the ruling circles responsible for the needless miseries of humbler folk, “natives” and “newcomers” alike.
